Ron Fox’s Bio
Well,
here goes my attempt at the last 40 years!
I have enjoyed reading the bios of our class and have enjoyed being
brought up to date with each one’s life.
I hope you enjoy my bio as much as I have enjoyed the others in the
class.
After
graduation and working for my dad in the hay fields, September found me off for
my freshmen year at Pasadena College.
This was my church’s college where I went to get a major in Pastoral
Ministry and History. I graduated in
the summer session of 1965 and then took an additional year of work in both of
my majors.
December
of 1965, I married Janet Hanson, a sister-in-law of a roommate in college. I finished out my 5th year of
college, and then in June of 1966, Jan and I moved to El Centro where I served
on staff of my home church, El Centro Church of the Nazarene, as a youth minister
for the next six months. I was then
transferred to the Santa Ana First Church of the Nazarene where I served as
Youth Minister for 3 years.
October
of 1969, while in Santa Ana our son, Robert Wayne was born.
In
December of 1969, we moved to Willows, CA where we would serve as the Pastor
and family of the Willows Church of the Nazarene. While we were in Willows our daughter, Lisa Marie, was born in
February 1972. While in Willows, I
became very involved with the community:
the Chamber of Commerce, the Toastmasters, the Willows High School Band
Boosters as a sponsor on many of their road trips, and local Ministerial
Association Board. In the church I also
became involved in different assignments for the Sacramento District such
as: Director of the District summer
Junior High camp and election to the District’s Youth Council.
September
1973, our family moved to Weaverville, CA where we would be Pastor and family
at the Weaverville Church of the Nazarene.
November of 1973, we lost Lisa Marie to Reye’s syndrome. She was the joy of this daddy’s heart. We miss her even today. While in Weaverville I continued to serve
in various positions on the District Youth Council and being eventually elected
to serve as President. I would go on to
serve for 5 ½ years as President of the District Youth Council. I continued to serve as Director of the
summer Junior High Camp for the District church. I was also involved in the community of Weaverville as we served
as pastor of the church. I was chaplain
for the Rotary Club of Weaverville, and I served as chaplain for the Sheriff’s
department for Trinity County. I also
served as a substitute teacher for the schools in Weaverville from Kindergarten
to the High School. What a challenge! But a great experience!
September
1976, our family moved to Placerville, CA where we would be Pastor and family
at the Placerville Church of the Nazarene.
While pasturing a growing congregation I again was very involved in the
local community and continued to be very involved in leadership of the District
Church ministry of northern California.
While in Placerville I was elected to serve a 5-year term on the
International Church of the Nazarene Youth Board. I was also elected to serve on the executive committee of the
International Board. The major event of
the 5 years was to sponsor an International Youth gathering in Mexico, where we
had nearly 10,000 high school students from all over the world meet in Mexico
for a 10-day event of inspiritation and training. On the District level I became the summer Senior High camp
director. On the local level I was a
member and chaplain of the Lions club, served on the local ministerial
association board, and was one of the local hospital chaplains, and the county
jail chaplains.
After
several invitations I joined the Admissions office of Point Loma Nazarene
College located in San Diego, CA, as Associate Director of Admissions in March
1985. Point Loma Nazarene
College/University is my church’s school that was located in Pasadena and where
I went to college. The college moved
to San Diego in 1973, where it has enjoyed years of growth and
development. I enjoyed traveling all
over California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas and Hawaii, representing
Point Loma and talking with families and prospective students about admission
to Point Loma.
In
March 1999, son, Rob married the love of his life, Kim, and Jan and I became
“in-laws”. Rob and Kim lost their
first-born son, Ryan, in childbirth that same year. But August 2000, Ashley Lynn’s arrival has blessed our family and
Jan and I became grandparents for the second time. We are excited about being grandparents and have found it much
more fun than being parents! This
August 25, 2001 we celebrate Ashley’s first birthday!
In
August 1999 I was given the opportunity to become the Director of Admissions at
a sister school, Mount Vernon Nazarene College, located in Mount Vernon,
Ohio. So Jan and I packed up and moved
to Mount Vernon, Ohio, after nearly 15 years of being in San Diego, and this,
the first time in my life to live outside of California. I enjoy Ohio and love experiencing the
seasons of the year, which is very different than El Centro, or even San Diego.
In
June 2001, Jan and I moved to Cincinnati, Ohio area where I have joined the
staff of Jenzabar, Inc of Cincinnati, where I am serving as an “Implementation
Specialist”. Jenzabar is the parent
company of the company that developed the computer software that is used by
many colleges and universities for the management of their databases. Both Point Loma and Mount Vernon use it for
their computer software and the management of their databases, and with my 16
years experience using the software; I will now be training other admissions
offices in the use of the software. I
am excited about my new challenge and look forward to years of service in this
new field.
I
look forward to seeing you all in October at the class reunion.
Blessings
on you all,
Ron
